Episode 1

My name is Rosaline but some people especially my parents call me Rose. Right now I am
thirteen years old but who knows? I might never stop being thirteen, I might never get the
opportunity to grow into the much lusted after adulthood we teenagers don’t seem to ever stop
dreaming of. I must tell you the truth, I am afraid of growing up, if my life can be this twisted at this
age, how will it be when I grow up? And this is why I said I might never stop being thirteen.
Okay enough of all the introductions, I’m sure that by now you are curious about me and why I am
the way I am right now. Well I will help feed your curiosity, quench your thirst for answers with the
story I am about to tell you. It is the story of how I came into being. The ignorant decisions that
ushered me into this cruel world and how I became this broken and bruised.
At the age of thirteen, I have witnessed the murder of someone who seemed to be the only one
who ever loved me. My innocence was also murdered and my childhood exchanged on the Devil’s
gambling table.
Okay can you permit me to recite a part of a particular poem I have read like a hundred times
already? It reminds me of my other parent, it will definitely give you a clear picture of his kind of
person, this poem was written by Kukogho Samson; a poet I so much want to be like if at all I am
to take the chance of growing up.
…In the folly of his wisdom,
He brews the wine of truth
With fermented grape of lies,
And lays tomorrow’s coins
On the Devil’s gambling table!
Hmmmmmm! I hope you got the picture of what I am trying to paint? Sorry I seem to be too wise
for my age, my predicament and life experiences saw to that. So I shall begin…
*Fourteen Years Ago*
My mum’s name was Ahunli. She came from a family of five: she was the first and only daughter
with two younger brothers. They were an average family who lacked nothing yet didn’t have
enough to spare. She decided to leave her comfort zone one day to take a job she got in Abuja as
a Geologist for Hobark International Limited. I must call that a curse since it was that one single
step that led to every misfortunes that befell her, or must I say us, thereafter.

There at a party she was forcefully dragged to by her colleague Alexis, she met a man for whom
she started developing funny and scary feelings, and she called it love. He was a very handsome
guy and wore his shoulders high enough to depict someone of highborn heritage. He had cast one
or two glances her way but that was all he ever did (don’t laugh within yourself asking how I got to
know about something as minute as that because my mum told me every single detail of her life
from the moment she met him with unshed bloodied tears in her eyes). That’s funny right? She
thought I did not understand her rants but of course I did and everything was etched deeply into
my memory.
Okay to cut long story short, of which yeah, it is still very long, she found a way to talk to him and a
conversation broke out between them…
Ahunli: “Hi!” she was shy to the bones but knew she wouldn’t forgive herself if she did not talk to
him that day.
Olamide: “Hi” he replied indifferently, telling her in no uncertain terms that he wasn’t interested in
whatever she was selling.
Ahunli: “My name is Ahunli which means Joy. You can just call me Joy” she beamed with
embarrassed smiles.
Olamide: “I am Olamide” he replied coldly.
He probably thought he should be nice to her since she was just the type of girl he found worthy
enough to fuck with. Or let me just call it what she called it; bang. Yeah, yeah, I know you’re
shocked at hearing a thirteen years old use such words…well, I have been there, done that (will
get to that in due time).
Ahunli: “Oh you mean like my wealth is here?”
She said laughing alone at what she perceived to be a joke. So embarrassing even I am flushing
with embarrassment right now. Her friend sat in front of the bar man, clutching her head. She
dared not look at my mum again.
Olamide: “So I want to get back to the dance floor now if you may excuse me? Your sense of
humour is something to die for” he said arrogantly trying to play hard to get. So cheap!
Ahunli: “Okay that is okay but can I have your number please?” She told me the look on his face
was that of sheer disbelief. He probably thought she was out of her mind at that moment but well
after a little hesitation, he brought out his Nokia C6 and got her number then dialled it immediately.
She was so pleased that she saved his number with Prince Charming. Smh! She probably thought
life was a fairy tale. If only she could see it the way I am seeing it now, maybe I wouldn’t even be here to tell you this kind of story to begin with.
After that day, the hunt for the Prince Charming began, well only in her fairy tale did the Princess
have to chase after the prince so much. She would call him all by herself like ten times a day while
he ignored it nine times. She would leave a hundred messages for him on WhatsApp and
Facebook but he’d ignore them all and only say hello.
It went on and on until one day he probably got worn out with her incessant gibbering and
pestering, he decided to ask her over to his house. She was elated and just couldn’t find anything
suitable enough to wear for her important outing. She had to consult Alexis on what to wear. Alexis
had her fears when her friend showed up at her doorstep in the evening that day and did not
hesitate to give her fears a voice…
Alexis: “Where did you say you are going to again please?” she said after she had sat her excited
friend down on the only cushion in the room.
Ahunli: “You will not believe Olami has asked me over to his place at last. I am so excited”
I swear if I was Aunty Alexis at that time, I’d have slapped her beautiful excited face to douse her
out of her naivety. And that was exactly what she also felt like doing but restrained herself well
Alexis: “Hmmmmm I don’t think you are in your right senses. I know you are naïve and all but how
is it that a grown up lady like you cannot use her sense? How old are you again? You will be
twenty-seven by December and you are still thinking like a thirteen years old girl?”
Well I am thirteen and I wouldn’t have acted that way-this was my thought when she told me this
part. Maybe I am just overreacting? Well maybe…
Ahunli: “Come on! You know how much I have longed for this guy. I will just go this once and if he
is still acting up-tight, I will stop seeing him” well even I knew that was nothing but a blabber.
Alexis: “Who are you telling that to? I? You think I am daft like you? He hasn’t slept with you yet
and you are like this, what if he sleeps with you once? You will definitely lose your mind. No! Your
head will be pushed into your butt and thinking straight will become very difficult afterwards.
Please we can avoid even the inevitable. Don’t go”
Ahunli: “You know I will go. So help my ministry and just get me something sexy to wear. I know
you are the queen of sexiness. Baby I really want to give it a try”
Alexis: “I see!” she stood up, opened her closet to reveal different type of gowns. She fancied
gown more than any other cloth type.

Mum went closer with eyes popping out of their sockets as she took in the beautiful dresses before
her. She took her time in testing them to see which suited her the most. At about quarter to 8, she
was ready to leave at last in a stripe and printed short gown which revealed her nicely shaped
straight legs. Those were her best assets as she didn’t see herself as being that beautiful.
Alexis watched her go, unable to stop her friend from walking into a hellhole. “What is the best way
to learn again if not by experience?” Even I must have heard her mutter that from my world. My
mother just walked on despite hearing her. She knew what she wanted and she was going to get it
by all means possible.
When at last he went to pick her up at the junction, it was already some minutes past eight and he
was irked as to why she would be late for their first meeting and had already concluded in his
heart that she was unreliable. Reaching fast conclusions and being judgmental were his finest
Olamide: “So what took you so long?” he asked when at last they walked into his estate and
headed for his apartment.
Ahunli:” I am sorry, I had to find something suitable to wear” she replied truthfully.
Olamide: “I see!”
Ahunli: “Your apartment is nice” she said when they entered inside. The place was small with two
settees filling up most of the space and a shiny table at the centre. She was impressed with the
interior décor and how it depicted the life of a young bachelor who was probably too lonely for his
own good. There were few awards from his company adorning the walls of the sitting room and
from where she sat, she could see his little home office.
Olamide: “What should I offer you?” he stood in front of her enjoying the sight of her thighs as the
gown rode higher up her legs.
Ahunli: “Just water will do” she blushed knowing he was ogling at her. it felt good.
Olamide: “Water? No way! I have all sorts of assorted alcoholic wine and beer. Those are the type
I offer my guests so shall I bring wine or beer?” he asked impatiently.
Ahunli: “Okay I will just take wine since it’s my first time here but on a normal day, I don’t take
alcoholic drinks” she replied with enthusiasm.
I can imagine her heart thumping in her chest. She was so super excited her heart was suffering.

She took sips of the tequila wine he offered her making sure she didn’t take too much to the extent
of getting intoxicated. She could still feel his eyes roaming all over her body and she started
feeling uncomfortable at last. “Maybe I really shouldn’t have come. I don’t think I am ready to have
sex with him just yet. Maybe it’s time for me to leave” She thought uncomfortably. She was a risk
taker and so even after checking time and realising it was almost 10pm, she still stood up to
Olamide: “Oh no! You cannot leave just yet babe…” he said and drew her down with force.

Episode 2

She laughed awkwardly when he drew her down like that and blinked several times by reflex. The
look on his face spoke volumes. He wanted her and was going to have his way-wasn’t she
foolish? How could she have gone there by that time when she knew she didn’t want to have sex
with him just yet? How could she have gone there without thinking he might want to have his way
with her?
Ahunli: “What are you trying to do?” she asked, their eyes interlocking.
Olamide: “Nothing you don’t really want to do”, he answered rather carelessly.
Ahunli: “I don’t think there is anything I want to do other than just talk or better still just go home”
Olamide: “Is that so?” he ran his hand through his afro styled hair.
Ahunli: “Yes! So I think I will start going home now”
Olamide: “If you really didn’t want to do anything with me then why did you come here by this
She could identify a tone of sarcasm in his question and that irked her.
Ahunli: “Well that was because I really wanted to see you. Do not get my intentions twisted cos
yeah I want to be with you but not in this manner. Don’t treat me like I am some whore you picked
by the road side” she was defensive, hopelessly defensive.
Olamide: “I really do hate girls like this. If you really want something why pretend you don’t want it
just to prove some stupid point? It’s of no use my dear. Want me if you wish, let’s have sex if you
want but of what use is postponing what you know you will still do? This is hopeless mehn! I will take you home. Stand your ass up from my couch and pick up your bag” he stood up with hand
akimbo looking down at her with a misplaced disgust. He was blunt and didn’t have the time to
beat around the bush.
Ahunli: “Why are you talking this way? You are getting it all twisted for real” she said not making
any attempt to stand up. She feared he would stop talking to her if she were to leave like that. She
feared he would stop talking to her all together and didn’t want to take that risk.
Olamide: “Aren’t you going home again? If I sit down now, I will not stand up again and you will
have to go home all by yourself” he knew he was already subduing her and that fed his ego like a
pot of weed satisfies a person who lives on dope.
Ahunli: “Well…” she stuttered like an idiot with no mind of her own. How could she not have stood
her ground?
Olamide: “Well what? Staying right? Good girl, I will be going off to bed soon. You should be able
to find your way into the bedroom when you are ready-it is a small house” he made the decision
on her behalf and left her dazed on her seat like a dumbass lady. He was satisfied with the stunt
he just pulled and patted himself ‘well-done’ on the back.
She stared at his retreating figure and for some reason and felt excited about spending the night
with her Prince Charming. She found herself getting horny despite herself and when at last she
summoned up the courage to join him in his exotic bedroom, she was ready for anything he could
request for. In fact she was going to be the one to initiate it first if he didn’t make the move. She
was that horny- How I wish…well, wishing will be of no use right now, the deed is already done.
He stirred when he noticed her come in, half-opened his eyes and smiled…
Olamide: “Come and sleep at the back, it is ladies’ side” he said when she started walking towards
him at last. He turned and squeezed her in his arms when she had finally settled down on the bed.
she tried to wriggle out of his arms not because she wanted to be set free but because she
thought she should at least resist him a while, that is what ladies do not to appear cheap, isn’t it?.
When he started letting go of her, she tightened her own arms around his neck on the bed inviting
him for more.
Well she did not tell me exactly what happened that night, so I will not be able to describe the act.
What she did tell me was that they did what adults know to do best and it felt out of the ordinary for
her. He was the best she had ever had, he was good at every angle. What made her head twirl
more than it was willing to was the fact that he went down on her- mind you, I don’t know what that
means even now.
The adult stuff they did continue for some months after their first time. When she told me this story, I did not bother about it, I was just listening to an interesting story but thinking back on it
now, I must say she was really thoughtless or naïve or whatever name you want to call it. She was
the one to arrange all of their meetings. Most times he would even turn her down with the excuse
of having other plans. No matter how much she promised herself she would stop seeing him
because of how bad he made her feel, she still found herself arranging more meetings and
begging to spend nights with him- was that obsession?
Alexis however did not hesitate to keep talking to her about her folly. One night when she went by
her house after work cos she was on a three day leave from work- lucky her since their boss
hardly gave them permission for a leave, as they talked about stuffs ladies gist about, she kept
ranting on and on about her Olami…
Ahunli: “Babez, you wouldn’t believe how good he is on bed. I have never had sex with anyone
that good before” she said blushing and giggling from ears to ears.
Alexis: “I guess that is the reason you are so obsessed with him? You really do surprise me
sometimes, you know. You are gradually turning to a prostitute without even knowing it. Where is
your sense of self-worth? Hian!”
Ahunli: “What do you mean by that? I really don’t like the way you talk some times, what do you
mean by I am gradually turning into a prostitute?” my mum hardly got angry but yeah she took that
statement quite personal.
Alexis: “You know I will tell you the truth. It seems like I am the only one among the fake friends
you pack up and down who can tell you the truth and I will not relent until you have come back to
your senses. Ahunli…Joy…stop dragging yourself in the mud the way you are doing. I will cut the
ties between us soon if you continue like this, I can’t be friends with a person who wouldn’t listen
to me” well you see this aunty? She is a no-nonsense lady.
Ahunli: “I thought you said you will not relent in telling me the truth? Which one is you will cut ties
with me now?”
Alexis: “Well the truth is what I am telling you. I will not relent until I get tired of telling you this
truth. That guy is deadly. He is not worthy of a kind and beautiful woman like you. He is only in
love with himself and the booze. Baby please steer clear of him before it is time to regret it”
Ahunli: “I can’t do that”
Alexis: “Why? Cos of the sex?”
Ahunli: “Not cos of the sex. I actually love him and no matter how much I try to fall out of love with
him, the love keeps growing. You know I do tell you my heart is rebellious? It never listens to me. I really can’t help it, right now I am already thinking of how to go see him”
Alexis: “Stop having sex with him and you will see how fast your heart will start listening to you.
You can still guard your heart to the right direction, it is yours and you can control it no matter how
difficult it seems” she advised.
Ahunli: “Now I am not going to tell you what I wanted to anymore not with the way you are talking”
Alexis: “What is it about? Are you trying to change the topic?”
Ahunli: “Nope! It’s about the same issue though”
Alexis: “Well I don’t want to hear it if it’s about him. I am tired of hearing stuffs about him. He treats
you bad, doesn’t call you, and hardly even replies to your chat. The only time he shows one iota of
tenderness towards you is when he is inside you, thumping and thrusting away at your dignity…”
Ahunli: “Well that shows me he actually loves me, maybe he is just trying to act tough by
concealing it and putting up a bold font. The way he wraps me in his arms at night, the way he
kisses my forehead while we are at it…”
Alexis: “Shut up jare. See I don’t want to hear about him anymore. If you think all that is what love
is then I must confess you are dumber than I thought”
Ahunli: “Fine by me”
Alexis: “What is fine by you if I may ask?”
Ahunli: “That I am dumber than you think of course. If being dumb will give me what my heart
desires the most then I am a happily dumb lady. Thanks for the compliment”
Alexis: “ Suit yourself, abeg”. She hissed.
On her way back home that day, she was not happy because Alexis had succeeded in putting
doubts in her heart. She decided in her heart to stop updating her about her escapades with him.
what baffled her about him though was that despite how much they had had an intercourse, he
had never professed love for her neither had he ever tried to make her his in the name of
relationship. She wanted him to be fully hers so much that she started courting the thought of
getting pregnant for him.
The next day when she went visiting him, she decided to bare her heart to him…
Ahunli: “There is something I want to tell you Ola” she said unsure of herself. He looked up from the eba and okro soup he was eating, wondering what it was that time around.
Olamide: “I am all ears” he said, looked down again and kept eating.
Ahunli: “Don’t you have any feelings for me at all? We have been at this for like how many months
now?” her heart was beating violently against her rips as she awaited his response.
Olamide: “Is this what you want to talk about?” he shrugged.
Ahunli: “Not really, but it will lead to the important one. Just answer me”
Olamide: “Aren’t you happy with the way we are already? We are friends who have stuffs to offer
each other. I’d rather feelings aren’t involved. Feelings wreck things up, feeling is a bitch and I am
not ready to let her lay hands on me just yet”
Ahunli: “Hmmmm so you are trying to say you don’t even have one single feeling for me and we
can’t officially start dating?”
Olamide: “Like I said, I love the way we are already. Why do we have to give a name to something
that is already perfect? Let’s not define our relationship and just leave it the way it is. Tagging this
a relationship will definitely destroy what we have right now”
Ahunli: “So you even know we have something? So why is it that you don’t ever make the first
move to call or text me? Why don’t you ever make arrangements for us to meet?”
Olamide: “Stop asking dumb questions, can’t you see I am eating? I still know my table manners if
you have forgotten yours . Well in other for you not to start perceiving me as a heartless human,I
will answer that question: it is because I know you will call anyway so why do I need to call? I
know you will make the arrangements. I am just leaving you in charge of the whole thing” how
sugar-coated his tongue was, she fell for him all over again with the reply she got. What he told
her was close to what she wanted to hear.
Ahunli: “Oh I see! Then let’s have a baby?”
Olamide: “A baby out of wedlock? Are you out of your mind?” he dropped the mound of eba in his

Ahunli: “Oh I see! Then let’s have a baby?”
Olamide: “A baby out of wedlock? Are you out of your mind?” he dropped the mound of eba in his
She paused for a while, thinking if she had said something wrong for real, because of how he had
reacted to what she said. Well having me or not was what they were arguing about and my mum
seemed to have been hell-bent on keeping the love of her life. So I was a kind of leverage she
planned on using to accomplish that.
Ahunli: “Why is it that much of a bad idea? We are not getting married, all we have to do is have a
baby together. Why is that so difficult?” she threw her hand up in the air and fixed her gaze on him
Olamide: “I still think you are out of your mind. You will willingly have a baby for a man who is not
your husband? Like, out of wedlock?”
Ahunli: “You don’t want commitment now do you? And I want a baby. If we can have sex, why not
have a baby together? We are both matured with good jobs. At least, I earn more than a hundred
thousand per month so I can contribute to the baby’s upbringing too. Let’s do this thing.”
Olamide: “We are done with this discussion and please don’t bring it up again. If you want a baby,
you can go get artificially inseminated. Don’t drag me into your crazy world” he said and stood up
to take his half eaten food to the kitchen. She had obviously made him lose his appetite.
Ahunli: “Is that why you are not eating again? I will not bring it up again. Please come and finish
your food” she shouted after him but he ignored her. She heard the plates clanging in the washing
basin and water rushing from the tap.
How I wish I know what he was thinking at that moment. He must have probably been thinking of
how stupid she was or how cheap and easy she was. He was probably thinking of what to garnish
it with when he gisted his friends about the new development cos I’m sure he must have been
discussing her in their cesspool of defunct ideas. I am not saying he was bad, he must have had
his own reasons and yeah, we will get to that soon enough too. Many people have excuses for
treating others badly, for being twisted and broken, for being whom they are, so his must not have
been an exception- I was sure.
She did not give up in her bid to get pregnant for him, she knew asking her friend Alexis on how to go about it was going to be fruitless and so she decided to get the information from one of her
male colleagues in the office called Francis, without divulging her intentions. During lunch break,
one afternoon, she sat beside him at the café…
Ahunli: “Hello Francis. How are you doing today?” she asked flashing a wide toothed smile.
Francis: “I am doing just fine and you? Hope your day is not as hectic as mine is o?” he smiled
back at her. She knew he had always admired her and sought for ways to talk to her but being the
shy type , he always ended up just mumbling something that she could not understand, and then
disappearing. He seemed surprised when she started talking to him by choice that day.
Ahunli: “Well it’s just like every other day for me. Doing the same thing over and over again, it is so
Francis: “Should we swap responsibilities then?”
Ahunli: “You will be highly welcome. So there is something I and my friend were discussing… We
were kind of arguing about it and she seemed to have had the upper hand in the argument. Can
you help me clarify it please?”
Francis: “Of course anything for the lady” he said and leaned closer to her sipping the espresso in
his hand. He had told her that he preferred it to sweetened coffee since it kept him awake and
alert on his job.
Ahunli: “We were talking about how a lady can get a man to impregnate her even though he uses
condom every time. She said it’s possible but I told her it isn’t. Is it really possible?”
Francis: “Of course! It is more than possible”
Ahunli: “How?”
Francis: “Well this can happen if he is a little drunk though. All you have to do is put holes in the
condoms he will be using, make sure you use needle so the holes will not be so visible. And then
to increase your chances of conceiving, take fertility drugs and believe me, you will be pregnant in
no time” he said pleased with himself.
Ahunli: “Wow it’s that easy? So I guess I was wrong then? But what kind of fertility drug can be
used? Never mind sef, I don’t need to know” she changed her mind but of course that was in order
for him not to suspect she needed the info for herself. She decided to consult the ever knowing
Google instead.
Francis: “Okay then. So there is something I’ve wanted to tell you…”

Ahunli: “Oh really? Okay then?”
Francis: “I actually like you a lot. Can you permit me to show you how much I do?”
Ahunli: “You just did by clearing my doubts dear” she replied in her usual nice manner not wanting
to sound offensive. The guy looked nice and cute but she wasn’t for the nice guys and besides,
her heart was already somewhere else or so she thought. She sighted Alexis walking back to the
office and used her as an excuse to escape any further wooing from the guy. She quickly stood up
and ran after her, calling out to her to slow down a bit.
Francis: “But I am not done with what I was saying. I guess she didn’t understand what I was
saying much. I have messed this up again” he mumbled to himself fiddling with his cup.
She felt sorry for him but there was nothing she could do. She was on a mission to win her own
love and didn’t have a tiny bit of affection to spare for another man.
Alexis: “I can feel it…shining down on me” she mocked when her friend finally caught up with her.
“Francis was asking you out or he was trying to right? I can feel it. The guy is quite nice and even I
have an eye for him but he does not seem to notice any other ladies in this place but you alone.
You sure are a lucky lady without even realising it”
Ahunli: “Well I am ready to dash you this particular luck of mine. One of you ladies can have him
since I am not interested at all”
Alexis: “Because of your arrogant sex partner?”
Ahunli: “Call him whatever you want babez but my heart knows where it belongs. Do not bother
yourself at all” she said smiling to herself and thinking of how sure she was about getting pregnant
soon. As Alexis kept talking, she kept thinking and calculating her menstrual cycle to know the
exact date she’d ovulate. She just couldn’t wait to feel his baby moving inside her. She didn’t know
when she started smiling.
Alexis: “Is what I’m saying sounding funny to you? And what is that mischievous look on your
face? Something tells me you are up to something fishy, what is it?”
Ahunli: “Something fishy ke. I am as gentle as a dove, baby. I don’t do mischief. Trust me”
Alexis: “Good!” she said as she got to her section of the office and took her seat while Ahunli
moved over to hers which was right opposite Alexis’.

Aren’t you curious about my grandparents and uncles? Well like I said before, they were not
strikingly rich but they could buy a car if they wanted to. Life was easy for them, I guess. They
went to orphanage homes every two months just to put a smile on little ones’ faces. They were a
good people with no worries until their daughter started creating one for them with her lacklustre
attitude towards the issue of marriage. She even once told them she would rather remain single
than stay subdued in a man’s house. Her stubbornness baffled them to the core.
Frank, her immediate younger brother always called to tell her everything going on in the house.
And so that night, when they were all settled in the sitting room after dinner, her mum was the first
to bring up the topic…
Grandma: “Honey! When was the last time you heard from Joy?”
Grandpa: “The last time you heard from her. She no longer calls the way she used to and she
hardly picks calls these days”
Grandma: “Hmmmmmm maybe I should go to Abuja?”
Frank: “That is not necessary mum. You sure don’t know how demanding the work of a geologist
is. She is just busier than usual, I spoke to her this morning and she said she misses you all so
much” he knew he had to say something otherwise his mum would take the next bus to Abuja at
Grandma: “So being busy is enough reason for her not to pick calls or call back?” one thing I sure
know about my granny is that she is smart and intelligent.
Frank: “Well she will be tired on getting home and at day break, work starts again. No time to even
check time”
Grandpa: “Even on weekends? That is fine then. So do you probably know when she will be
bringing a man to this house?”
Grandma: “That girl is an ogbanje. Her own vow is to torture her earthly parents to death by
refusing to get married. She will kill us with public disgrace one of these days”
Frank: “I don’t know why you guys will not let my sister rest. I am not even done having her around
yet so you can just leave her alone. Right Fred?” he said looking to his younger brother for
Fred: “Yeah! He is right” but the truth was, he wasn’t even paying attention to what they were
discussing, he was busy watching a Tele-novella.

Grandpa: “What do you mean by you are not done having her around? Is it until she reaches
menopause before you get done with having her around? I thought you were smart alright?” he
said shaking his head and adjusting the rims of his glasses.
Frank: “All I am saying is: give her some more time and stop pestering her so much”
Grandma: “How I wish she even gets pestered. The funniest part is she does not even care
whether we rant about it from morning till night. She does not even act like we talk about it”
Frank: “That is my sister for you. Just leave her be at least for now. She will fulfil your wish soon.
With that said, the couple stood up to retreat into their chambers, they always did everything
together and he heaved a sigh of relief at last.
Just like you would have guessed, she calculated her cycle well enough and the day she was to
ovulate, she got ready to go there with enough beer just in case he did not have any left which
was most unlikely. As she alighted from the bike and paid the okada man, she saw two men look
at her suspiciously just some metres from where she stood trying to cross the road. They wore
black caps which they seemed to have used to intentionally cover their faces. When at last she
crossed, they also crossed and started walking slowly after her, pausing, taking short strides and
walking fast whenever she did. As she looked back and saw them trailing after her at the secluded
road that led to the estate which the okada men don’t ply once it was 9pm, she tried to run but
tripped on a stone and fell flat on her face, her heart thumped violently in her throat as she heard
their footsteps running towards her…
what are you guys thinking right now? Is she getting kidnapped? If I’m to guess, I’d say that was
not the night I was conceived or was it?

Episode 4

She started whimpering with fright when they finally ran up to her.
Ahunli: “Please don’t hurt me. Please spare my life, I will give you whatever you want” she thought
of how they were about to thwart her well laid out plan and began to beg even more desperately
until the guys burst out into uncontrollable laughter. “What is so funny?” she asked despite herself
and scanned the faces of the guys properly. One of them had begun to remove his cap. She stood up when she saw his face properly at last and lunged at him, fuming.
Olamide: “Easy babe. You might fall down again at this rate. Hope you did not hurt your ankle?” he
bent down to inspect her legs when it looked like she was limping.
Ahunli: “Get your filthy hands off me you pretentious bastard. What exactly were you doing
chasing after me like that? And you too Nonso, is it fair?” she bent down to inspect her toe which
seemed to have been cut and bleeding.
Nonso: “Don’t be angry dear. We were just playing pranks on you. But hope you know how risky it
is moving around at night like this? It could have been some other guys and what would you have
done in that instance?”
Olamide: “She would have gone on her knees to beg of course. Please don’t hurt me, I will give
you anything you want” he said mimicking her.
Ahunli: “Thanks Nonso” she ignored the object of her affection, she was still shaken but who
wouldn’t be?”
Nonso: “It is fine. We are sorry too, it was a lame joke. Will get going now and get that leg treated”
he said, cast a glance at her legs and walked away waving a goodbye at them.
Olamide: “Thanks guy!” he shouted after his retreating figure before turning back to her. “I guess
it’s my house you are headed to?”
Ahunli: “Uhnuhn…I am headed to a mad man’s house for sure” she said and started walking
towards the direction of his estate again. He did not utter a word to her anymore, neither did he try
to lend her a helping hand seeing the way she was walking with difficulty. He just walked behind
her, probably wondering if he would be able to do the stuffs they did on a daily bases that night
with her injured leg.
When they got to the house, she dropped her bag and went straight for the bathroom, there, she
had her bathe, cleaned the wound with the methylated spirit she saw in the bathroom and
bandaged it. He seemed to be a big fan of first aid stuffs. Nothing was lacking in the box. She
came out feeling refreshed and happier, knowing that nothing was getting in the way of her goals
for that night. She wore the sexy nightie she brought along and joined him on the bed.
Ahunli: “You can’t even say sorry to me despite the fact that it was you who caused it all?”
Olamide: “Sorrry” he said curtly.
Ahunli: “Just like that? Well you didn’t have to say it when it wasn’t coming from your heart” she queried, a frown creasing her brow.
Olamide: “Okay now. Do you want to sleep or what?”
Ahunli: “Let’s play a game” she said, her eyes filled with excitement, the frown had long
Olamide: “What game? You think you are still a child?”
Ahunli: “Well I just wanna play at least one game with you. Can’t we even do that?”
Olamide: “Okay!”
Ahunli: “It is a truth or dare game. If you refuse to do anything I ask you to do, you will down a
bottle of beer. Same applies to me. So choose which you want, truth or dare?” she said excitedly
like a kid who just won a trophy as the best athlete in a marathon.
Olamide: “Uhn! Sounds interesting, as long as drinking is the penalty then we are cool. Where are
the bottles?”
She quickly ran off to the kitchen to check if there were chilled ones in the freezer. She wasn’t
disappointed. She returned with five bottles of big stout.
Ahunli: “Okay truth or dare?”
Olamide: “Dare”
Ahunli: “I dare you to drink one bottle without stopping”she said giggling from ear to ear.
Olamide: “You call that a dare?” he scoffed, opened one bottle and downed its content without as
much as a grunt. “Truth or dare?” he queried when he was done.
Ahunli: “Truth” she replied in a small voice, the excitement had been replaced with uncertainty.
Olamide: “Okay what is your name?”
Ahunli: “What? You call that a question? Nonsense guy” she said hitting his arm
Olamide: “Just answer jare”
Ahunli: “Ahunli! So truth or dare?”

Olamide: “Dare”
Ahunli: “Can’t you ask for truth? Whatever! I dare you to tell me you love me”
Olamide: “Is that a dare? Well I can’t tell you that” he said coolly, without as much as an emotion
on his face.
Ahunli: “Good then, take another beer” she replied disappointedly even though she already knew
he wasn’t going to say it.
They kept at this until he became quite tipsy and obviously high on adrenaline. He pulled her close
and started fiddling with her nightie. She stopped him, reached for the condom she already had
handy and handed it to him. He without a second thought tore it open and whoosh, the deed was
done. She slept like a baby that night after praying it would work knowing that if it didn’t, she would
have to wait for another month before she would have to give it a try again. She was so desperate
to have me (her leverage) so she could have her man all to herself.
Two months later, she started feeling sluggish and dizzy for no apparent reason. Her energy level
was like 20%. She knew without doubt that she was due for a pregnancy test and went for the best
available option. She did a home pregnancy test and to her elation, it showed two red lines. She
jumped for joy, knelt down thanking God for her blessing. She could not believe she was carrying
his child at last. She reached for her bare tummy and caressed it fondly muttering to me as if I
could understand what she was talking about. She quickly dialled his number and he picked up on
the third ring; in her normal way, she asked him if she could go by the house that night and he
agreed after much haranguing.
She did not bother waiting for him to get home, she got there earlier than she used to and had to
wait for him at the gate. He was surprised when he saw her at the gate and wondered what was
raging in her mind at that moment. From the look on his face, he must have known she had
something pushing her towards ecstasy and was curious to know what it was or so she thought.
He opened the gate since they had no gateman and drove in…
Ahunli: “Welcome back dear. How was work today?” she said when he alighted from his car and
headed for his front door.
Olamide: “It was stressful but I thank God and yours?”
Ahunli: “I am on leave na. How many times will I tell you?”
Olamide: “Do you think that is what I use my head to think of? I have my job and lots of other stuffs
to think about not your job” he said as he stepped into the sitting room since the door led directly to the sitting room. He dropped on the chair by his right hand side and started removing his shoes.
Ahunli: “Let me remove it for you” she said and bent down to help him remove the shoe but he
wouldn’t have any of that.
Olamide: “No thank you. I can remove it by myself. So why couldn’t you wait before rushing down
here knowing the time I come back? What if I had decided to hang out with the guys today leaving
you to wait out there all by yourself?” he asked, becoming agitated.
Ahunli: “Well I already know you wouldn’t do a thing like that. You are a gentleman na and besides
you wouldn’t do a thing like that to a woman carrying your baby ” she thought and smiled to
Olamide: “Why are you smiling?”he queried, arching his brow in puzzlement.
Ahunli: “There is something I need to tell you but I don’t know how you will take it. Should I go
ahead?” she asked, acting as innocent and fragile as she could.
Olamide: “Of course! Go ahead but you can still keep it to yourself if you want to” She knew he
didn’t mean that.
Ahunli: “I am pregnant” she dropped the bombshell, and waited for his reaction, but it did not
Olamide: “Oh! Congratulations o. I am happy for you but why are you telling me? You should go
sort it out with the father of the baby” he said and stood up to go drop his shoes inside.
Ahunli: “The baby belongs to you. At least you are the only one I’ve been having sex with since I
came to this city” she said standing up after him.
Olamide: “That can never be possible” he said with conviction.
Ahunli: “Why not?”
Olamide: “Because I have never had sex with you without condoms. Even when I am as drunk as
the drunken master, I still use condom. So get that thought out of your head and go look for the
father of the innocent child” he thundered.
Ahunli: “Please don’t do this to me Olami” she started to weep when she realised her folly.
Olamide: “What do you mean by that? Are you going out of your mind? You got pregnant for
another man and now you want to make me responsible for it? Are you fucking crazy?” he yelled.

Ahunli: “You know condoms are not reliable. They can break or something” she ventured.
Olamide: “Oh hold it right there. I don’t use cheap ones and they have never broken before. I know
what I am talking about. If you are done with your allegations, you can find your way out right? I
hope you wouldn’t make me push you out?”he said pointing to the door.
Ahunli: “Oh my God! No, no, no please don’t do this please” she started wailing in earnest when it
dawned on her that he meant what he was saying. She sat down in the sitting room while he went
to freshen up. She heard the tap running and wondered if he would really throw her out. The
thought of getting thrown out broke her heart to shreds and at that moment she thought she felt
blood drip from her eyes in form of tears. “Should I tell him the truth about that night? How I
became pregnant? Wouldn’t it make things even worse? ” she pondered on and on until she heard
the bathroom door open. She shot to her feet, as she waited for heaven to fall…
Question: Will she tell him the truth? Do you think telling him the truth will make him accept me?

Episode 5

He eyed her with a warning look on his face and stepped into his room which adjoined to his study
room, kitchen, bathroom and even the sitting room. She followed him with calculating steps.
Olamide: “What is it now? What did I tell you before I went to have my bathe?”
Ahunli: “Well there is something I need to tell you. I know I did wrong and I am sorry”
Olamide: “I guess you are about to confess to me not being your baby papa?” he said fingering
through his closet to find something befitting to wear for the hot evening.
Ahunli: “That is not it. I want to tell you how it happened that you are the father of my baby” she
said sadly, I could feel her sadness seeping through the placenta to nag at my green mind. I
recoiled and closed my already shut eyes. I was sad too.
Olamide: “Okay, I’d be more than glad to hear your theory but make sure it is convincing enough”
he said as he squeezed himself into the sport shorts that had Chelsea logo at its side.
Ahunli: “That night when we did the truth or dare game and you got tipsy. I gave you a condom
that had a hole in it already” she looked down unable to meet his bewildered gaze.

Olamide: “What do you mean by that? You intentionally did that? How dare you impose your
treacherous will on me? Did you even care about the baby? Did you think it would make me marry
you? You dumb ass lady”
Ahunli: “I am sorry. I just didn’t know what to do. You kept dodging any talk of us getting into a
relationship proper…”
Olamide: “And you decided to use this crooked means to trap me down? I told you I didn’t want a
baby just yet didn’t I?”
Ahunli: “Yes you did”
Olamide: “Even now, I still don’t want a baby. So you can keep the baby all to yourself or have an
abortion. Do whatever you want with it. Now that I am done talking, you may take your leave”
Ahunli: “Hmmmmm. I cannot have an abortion”
Olamide: “That is your call to make so you don’t need to tell me. I don’t want that baby” he yelled
and I cringed in the womb as minute as I was, I could feel their words to the pore of my tiny soul. It
struck like electrifying waves in my beating heart.
Ahunli: “Please! Please don’t do this” she began to plead even yet again and I wanted to kick her
from my abode to just shut up and get us out of the house. Why did she have to beg a man to
accept a responsibility she imposed on him?
He said nothing, reached for a shirt in the closet and wore it. Made to leave the house but she
jumped in front of him.
OLamide: “What now? Since you have refused to leave, I will leave for you” he pushed her aside
but she jumped back to her initial position jostling me up and down.
Ahunli: “Don’t worry, I will leave” she said, stepped aside, picked up her bag from where it laid and
walked out sadly leaving his rooted on the spot. He stared at her retreating figure and shook his
She hadn’t had been as distraught as she was that night in her life. She needed someone to talk
to, she needed someone to tell her it was going to be okay, she could not think of any other
person except Alexis. She boarded okada which dropped her directly in front of Alexis’ apartment
which was some stone throw from express where she normally dropped at. She didn’t trust herself
to trek that night as she suspected she could pass out like a drunk on the road. The pregnancy
hormones and everything worked together to mush up her emotions.

Alexis was surprised to see her friend at her place by that time knowing where she was supposed
to be instead. What baffled her the most was the look on her face and the tears streaks criss-
crossing her beautiful face. She fell into her arms and wept her eyes out immediately she had
opened the door. I could taste her tears from the womb. Her world started becoming scarier to me
by the minute I wondered if I really wanted out of my haven at that moment. What hurt me the
most was the hunger I felt, rather than feed me with something delectable, she was feeding me
with her tears and broken heart?
Alexis: “What happened babe? Why are you this way?” she asked after drawing her in and making
her sit down forcibly.
Ahunli: “I am ruined. I have used my own hands to ruin my own life; intentionally, stupidly, naively,
foolishly” she snivelled while I hiccupped.
Alexis: “Talk to me, what happened? I have a feeling this is about Olamide?” she grimaced at the
sound of his name in her ears.
Ahunli: “It is about him yeah but I did this to myself, it’s I who authored and co-authored this all by
myself and now I am ruined” she covered her face with her hands weeping loudly into them.
Alexis: “What did you do?” she held her by the shoulder trying to make her lift her face up and she
Ahunli: “I am pregnant”
Alexis: “What? You are what? Oh my goodness gracious God! And you say you ruined your own
life. You two ruined it together of course. Why are you trying to put him in good light?”
Ahunli: “I made him do it. He wasn’t even aware”
Alexis: “How is that possible?”
Ahunli: “I cunningly got him drunk and put holes on the condom”
Alexis: “Jeeesus!” she jumped to her feet looking down at her friend with fury. “You did what? Can
you come again please?”
Ahunli: “Yea I did that. I did it…yes I did” she gibbered.
Alexis: “I warned you this girl. I warned you. How could you have been that desperate? How could
you have gone to that extent to win a man over? Besides this not even winning a man over, this is
entrapping him. You acted despicably you know that?” she sat down back beside her friend.

Ahunli: “Yes I did and that’s why I am in this mess right now. What do I do?”
Alexis: “Now you are asking me what to do? Remember I told you what to do once and you
discarded it as a foolish idea? I don’t even know what you should do if I’m to be sincere with you. I
am more confused than you are right now”.
even I was confused. I started fretting I might be flushed out or dumped in the bin later on since I
was just a means to an end- a leverage.
Alexis: “Besides what did he say about it all?”
Ahunli: “He was furious, he said I should do whatever I want with it since he isn’t taking
responsibility for it. He almost threw me out”
Alexis: “For once I support him. How could you have done something like that to him? I would
have acted the way he did if I were in his shoes too so I cannot blame the dude right now. All I can
think of is you going back to beg him but I doubt he will accept since he fears commitment more
than death itself. You really didn’t do well o”
Ahunli: “Yes I know I did not and I am paying for my sins right now. I pity the baby. I don’t even
want to think of what its fate might be. My parents will not accept such an abomination”
My precious! I think I became an abomination rather than a bundle of joy. Already getting rejected
when I wasn’t even out of the womb yet. I told you my life was twisted, can you see what I meant
now? I was just a foetus who didn’t have to go through such a treatment in the hands of my own
parents but this is just the beginning though.
Alexis: “Hope you aren’t thinking of abortion though?”
Ahunli: “I don’t even know what I am thinking right now. I am lost”
Alexis: “It’s gonna be fine don’t worry. Just don’t do anything stupid anymore”
She left the next morning as early as the second cock crow when she realised Alexis had no
solution to her problem. She did not blame her for her outbursts though since she had warned her
about the whole ghost affair on several occasions. She decided to walk home rather than take bike
like she used to so as to clear her head and decide on what to do with me.
Let’s do a little mind play by guessing what my dad must have been doing after she left. He must
have sat down with his head in his hands, thinking of what to do. Having mixed feelings and
cursing at her for making him go through such. He must have called her dumb, stupid, selfish, thoughtless, naïve, crazy and even more of such names. He must have called his friend Nonso to
tell him the latest development and who knows? That one must have advised him to run for dear
life and act like he isn’t even aware she existed. You know guys, they will always have one
another’s backs in this kind of situation especially when they are birds of the same feather.
Back to her: as she walked back home that morning by the express with drooping shoulders and a
veil wrapped around her head and shoulders like Muslim ladies cars zoomed past her with most of
their occupants trying to reach their destinations as early as they had planned before other road
users joined in the mad race thereby constituting to traffic jam. A familiar car raced past her but
suddenly stopped and waited for her to reach it. As she got to the car, the driver got down from the
car probably as a sign of respect by not talking to her from inside the car.
Francis: “Hey hols girl!” he beamed with smile but it soon faded when he saw her face. Swollen
like one who wept all through the night? “Hey what’s wrong with you? Hop into the car, I will drive
you home” he said turning back to the driver’s side and got in. she hesitated for a while and
hopped in with him. He winded up the glass and ignited the car.
Francis: “So why are you walking all alone on the express road so early in the morning? You are
supposed to be at home sleeping since you are on leave” he cast her a side look taking in her
Ahunli: “I was at Alexis’ place. Just decided to walk rather than take bike” she replied.
Francis: “I still feel something is going on with you. What is it? You know you can tell me anything
right? I have loved you since your first day at the office and I keep dreaming of us having
sometime together like this but not with you looking the way you are looking”
Ahunli: “Yeah I know you like me and I will tell you point blank. I am pregnant for a guy who has
rejected the pregnancy. So can you stop loving me now please?”
Francis: “Hmmmm are you? Good then. Being pregnant is a good thing. Still wouldn’t stop me
from loving you if you would permit me” he said and my heart skipped beats in the womb. What is
he thinking now?
Question: Guys, if you were in Olamide’s shoes, what would you have done? And ladies, will you
go to that extent to ensure a man becomes yours?
